How do I apply?

Do I need to be an ASH member to
apply?
No,
applicants do not need to be members of ASH to apply. The application includes information on
eligibility requirements.
Can ASH help me find a mentor?
Applicants
may request assistance with identifying a mentor. To request assistance,
applicants must prepare a letter of intent. Instructions for preparing the
letter of intent are included in the application. Please note that ASH can only
make suggestions for a mentor; we cannot guarantee placement with a mentor.
Does my mentor need to be an ASH member?
Program
mentors must be ASH members in good standing on the day the application is due.
Does the program mentor need to be
located in the United States?
No. Program
mentors may be located anywhere in the world; the only requirement is that the
mentor be a member of ASH.
Is there a list of host mentors?
There is not
a list of host mentors. Members of the International Members Committee will review letters of intent and
suggest possible mentors based on the applicant’s proposed topic.
I don’t know what to include in my
budget. Can you help me prepare the budget?
Applicants
may request assistance with preparing a budget by submitting an optional letter of intent. Instructions for preparing the letter of intent are included in the
application.
I do not need assistance identifying
a mentor or preparing a budget. Do I still need to submit a letter of intent?
No, the
letter of intent is optional.
How does ASH determine which
countries are developing?
ASH uses the
criteria set by the World Bank. A list of eligible countries can be found on
the ASH Web site.
When is the deadline?
All letters of intent must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on February 28, 2010. All
application materials must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on April 23,
2010. Incomplete
applications will not be considered.
Can I pursue my own research
project under this program?
Individual
research projects will not be considered. Applicants must demonstrate that
their topic will benefit their home institution and that the home institution
has the infrastructure to implement the training.
I am not a hematologist. Can I still
apply?
Applicants
do not need to be hematologists to apply. However, the training topic proposed
must be related to hematology. Applicants may be physicians or laboratory
scientists at any stage in their career.
What should I include in my training
proposal?
Training
proposals should include a clear statement of the proposed topic. Topics should
be focused and related to hematology. Applicants must also demonstrate how the
training will benefit their home institution.
When will I receive a response about
my application?
Applicants and the proposed host mentors will be
notified of the outcome of the application no later than July 30, 2010.
