Legislation Exempts Match from Anti-Trust Litigation

This past weekend President Bush signed into law the Pension Stability Act, which included an amendment supported by the Association of American Colleges clarifying that the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) does not violate antitrust laws. The amendment, titled "Confirmation of Antitrust Status of Graduate Medical Education Resident Matching Programs," sponsored by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) and strongly supported by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA), had passed the House of Representatives on April 2 and the Senate April 8.

For more information, please see the the article in the April 13, 2004, edition of The Washington Post that describes the legislation and expected conclusion of the anti-trust litigation filed against the AAMC, NRMP, ACGME, and many institutions.
