Dr. Stuart Orkin is a renowned stem cell biologist, and, over the past decade, his research has focused on identifying critical nuclear regulators of hematopoiesis. Dr. Orkin's work on the molecular pathology of inherited blood disorders also greatly improved the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. Among numerous other accolades, he received one of ASH's highest honors, the William Dameshek Prize, in 1986. Currently, Dr. Orkin is the David G. Nathan Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.

Dr. Orkin will be speaking about his life's work and pioneering discoveries at one of the 2008 ASH Annual Meeting Pioneers in Hematology sessions.

We encourage you to honor Dr. Orkin by sharing your thoughts or stories through the Legends in Hematology Guestbook or by making a special gift to ASH.
