Most patients with hemophilia, including those with high-titer inhibitors, have the prospect of a normal lifespan. As these patients age, however, arthropathy and joint deformities can have an increasingly detrimental effect on their quality of life. Although hemophilia was once considered to be a contraindication to elective surgery, access to clotting factor concentrates and bypassing agents has made major elective surgery feasible and generally successful, even for patients with inhibitors. This symposium will consist of three lectures given by experts in the field of elective surgery for patients with hemophilia, followed by a question-and-answer period.
